Exploring the Capital: Historical Places to Visit in Imus, Cavite

Created at 2017-10-30

Cavite is mostly famous for Tagaytay and its spectacular view of the Taal Volcano. Apart from Tagaytay, the province is home to one of the most historical places in the Philippines: Imus. This de jure capital city of Cavite has some historical sites which played a significant role in the nation’s fight for independence. The city is also a center of Roman Catholic religion due to its great cathedrals and churches. Individuals touring the city should take the time to visit these great historical places.

Plaza Licerio Topacio
Also called Plaza Imus, this historical site has a monument erected in memory of the heroes who battled during the 1896 Philippine Revolution. The plaza got its name from General Licerio Topacio, a leader of the Philippine Independence movement.

The plaza also serves as the city’s focal point with stage areas and a neatly trimmed lawn. The city holds civic affairs and cultural shows on this site.

Queen Ysabel II Bridge
Named after Queen Ysabel II of Spain, this bridge is one of the oldest but still standing bridges in Cavite. This two-lane bridge was the site of the Battle of Imus on September 3, 1896, between the Spanish soldiers and the Filipino revolutionaries. Additionally, the bridge has a monument that portrays the battle situated at the south side of the bridge.

Imus Cathedral
Also known as the Nuestra Senora del Pilar Parish Church, this cathedral holds many baptismal and wedding celebrations of the city. The cathedral’s old Hispanic architecture exudes an ambiance conducive to spiritual meditation and monastic life. One can find Latin inscriptions accentuating the arches of the church.
